Au départ, il y avait un seul club connu sur le nom de Milan Football Club fondé par un anglais. La séparation était dû à une mésentente sur les joueurs à utiliser. L'AC millan, ultranationaliste ne voulait aligner que les joueur de nationalité italienne tandis que Inter voulait utiliser les joueurs internationaux, d'où le nom d'Internazionale Milan (Inter Milan)Lorsque les fascistes sont arrivé au pouvoir, ils ont voulu faire croire aux gens que le football était dérivé d'une longue tradition italienne connu sur le nom de Calcio. C'est ainsi que l'Associazione Calcio Milano (AC Milan) est né.
Evidemment, l'AC Milan dans sa forme original est allé d'échec en échec et c'est tout naturellement qu'ils ont commencé à faire venir les joueurs de l'étranger d'abord des pays nordiques ( Hollande, Suède) et récemment d’Amérique du Sud.
